An oil painting depicting Prince Duleep Singh (1838–1893) as a three-year-old boy. He is seated on the trunk of a tree, wearing a heavily embroidered red jāma (a long gown) and an equally embellished paṭkā (girdle) tied around his waist. Both his hands are resting on a sheathed sword tied to his shoulder belt and dangling at his waist. He wears leather pā-posh (shoes/slippers) richly embroidered with gold thread. This traditional Punjabi footwear is also known as khussa. The distant background to the left of the prince is the Badshahi Mosque and the white marble Hazuri Bagh Baradari.
